There's been a lot put out there today about the new 2015 Mustang GT350 and a lot of equal excitement about its flat plane crank V8 engine. I'm sure many of you understand all of the engineering ins and outs of how a flat plane crank works and why it sounds so different from the average V8 burble we're accustomed to hearing. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! does a a great job explaining the engineering behind it in an easy way just about anyone can understand.

Before we get to Jason's excellent explanation, let's hear and see a little more of the GT350 and some Ferraris to have a full appreciation of the music generated by high revving flat plane crank V8 engines. (I'm not sure why Ferrari's video is stretched weird, but you know what a 458 looks like - enjoy the sound).

Here is Jason's explanation of flat plane crank V8s:

And here is why a Ferrari sounds different from a Corvette:

Out walking our Doge tonight, I was literally thinking, "There's probably someone on Oppo who can explain how a flat-plane V8 works and why they sound so good. I should post that question."

I got home, and there was your post and helpful replies. Thanks!
